Alcohol Impaired Iowa Man Kills 4 Motorcyclists
IOWA - 21 year old Andrew Schlictimeier of Murray, NE is now behind bars and being housed in the Harrison County jail in Logan, Iowa. He is facing four felony counts of motor vehicle homicide in the August 9th deaths of four motorcyclists returning from the Sturgis Rally along I-29 near Little Sioux. His attorney, Steve Lefler hopes his client's voluntary surrender to authorities indicates he is not a flight risk, and that Schlictimeier has chosen not to let Iowa go through the extradition process.
Lefler said Schlictimeier turning himself in should show the judge that he is not a flight risk and they are asking the bond be lowered. Lefler said that Schlictimeier has shown his good faith that he is not going to run or take off. He is hoping a judge would consider reducing the bond.
Under Iowa law, Schlictimeier would have to post the entire bail amount or pay a bondsman 60-thousand dollars to be let out of jail. Lefler says he is asking the judge to consider Schlictimeier's cooperation and would like to see the bond reduced and percentage that out.
He said they are hoping that a judge would consider, number one, reducing the bond and then allow the family to post the 10-percent that people are accustomed to in Nebraska.
In Nebraska, Schlictimeier would need 20-thousand dollars to be released from custody. Lefler is being assisted by an attorney who is familiar with Iowa law, Bill Bracker.
According to Lefler, Bracker is going to help him navigate through the forest of Iowa laws so he will be there carrying the heavy oar on Monday.
Schlictimeier was charged Friday and was given until noon on Saturday to turn himself in. Authorities say following the accident, toxicology reports show his blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit.
