Alcohol, reckless driving led to Oregon crash

OREGON -- The driver of a car involved in a wreck on I-205 was cited for DUI by both the Portland, Oregon Police Bureau and the Washington State Patrol.

The accident covered 700-feet along the southbound lanes of the Glenn Jackson Bridge, across the border of the two states, according to Portland, Oregon police.

Witnesses told Oregon police that about 2:20 a.m., a silver 1998 Honda Civic and a red Pontiac were driving recklessly across the bridge.

Just inside the Oregon border, the Honda struck a semi in the left rear axle, causing its two trailers to drive over, and somewhat flatten the car.

The semi rig then tipped onto its right wheels and crashed into the center divider, settling on its side. The Conway truck driver, Brenton Reimer, was not hurt.

The driver and passenger crawled out of the Honda and ran to the northbound lanes, trying to flag down passing cars. No one stopped and they came back to the Honda. An ambulance took them to Southwest Washington Medical Center with minor injuries.

Ilya Anikin, 21, was cited by Portland police for DUII and reckless driving and the WSP cited Anikin for DUII. The accident all took place along an ODOT work zone.

Quick Drug Facts

A U.S. brewer recently launched a new caffeine-containing beer flavored with ginseng and fruit flavors. Why? Their reason is to "gain a larger market share of beer drinkers". However, a case could be made that young people will look at this product as a way to drink more beer and remain alert, thereby falsely believing they can drink more before driving home. And how do we know whether the flavored beers might not entice even younger drinkers? Unfortunately, no studies have been done on the long-term demographics of drinkers of such beverages. But why have such research anyway? Brewers will make more money, which is the main reason for new products.
Only 30% of adults in the U.S. believe that drinking can form part of a healthy, balanced life.
"Drinking long enough will cause a person to become alcoholic." There is simply no scientific basis for this misperception, which appears to have its origin in temperance and prohibitionist ideology.
Before sewers and water purification systems were invented, alcoholic beverages were safer to drink than most available water.
