Programs for outpatient treatment vary depending on the patient’s needs and the facility but they can consist simply of attending an community 12-step group, to a more structured outpatient program typically meeting a couple of times every week for a couple of hours at a time or, intensive out-patient(IOP) which consists of a highly structured group program that meets 3 to 5 days a week for a few hours at a time.

Quick Drug Facts

National surveys have found that while frequent heavy drinking among white 18-29 year-old males dropped between 1984 and 1995, rates of heavy drinking and alcohol problems remained high among African Americans in the same age group.
Prolonged consumption of alcohol may result in substantial weight gain which, in turn, can have negative effects on the heart.
Alcohol advertisers concentrated the advertising that overexposed African-American youth in 14 magazines accounting for 75% of the exposure of African-American youth to alcohol advertising in 2004, including Sports Illustrated, Vibe, Stuff, Entertainment Weekly, The Source, InStyle and Vogue. All the aforementioned titles exposed African-American youth to alcohol ads more effectively than youth in general. They also exposed African-American youth more effectively than African-American adults.
At least one major American university has recently banned alcohol in all frat houses and residences, in response to student alcohol overdose deaths. This, coupled with increased educational programs on campus, is part of the solution. But until young people are taught, at a very early age, to respect alcohol (and other drugs) for the danger that they can produce, college drinking and drugging will continue.
