What Types of Rehab are Available for Alcohol Abuse in Syracuse?

When searching for an Alcohol Treatment Facility and Alcohol Detox Center in Syracuse it is imperative to select the correct type of Alcohol Rehab Center and Alcohol Detoxification Center in Syracuse that will address your specific treatment needs. For most people, alcohol abuse and addiction is largely misunderstood and as a result, people often make improper choices as to which type of Alcoholism Treatment Facility in Syracuse they should consider, therefore they often receive inadequate treatment. When alcohol abuse has become a central aspect of life for yourself or your loved one, time is essential. You must quickly educate yourself about the many different types of Alcohol Rehabilitation and Alcohol Detoxification Facilities available in Syracuse.

Most Alcoholism Treatment Programs in Syracuse will offer a variety of services but often they will be categorized as a specific treatment type. There are many alcohol treatment types available including, out-patient alcohol treatment, inpatient alcohol treatment, alcohol detox, short term alcohol treatment or long term alcohol treatment.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment in Syracuse

There are many outpatient Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers in Syracuse. Most consist of some form of education classes, support groups, and or individualized therapy where the alcohol user does not require overnight stay. This is a popular form of treatment because of it's flexibility especially for those who cannot take long periods of time to devote entirely to alcohol abuse treatment. These types of programs can be very useful to those in Syracuse who must continue to work or attend school. Programs for outpatient treatment vary depending on the patient’s needs and the facility but they can consist simply of attending an community 12-step group, to a more structured outpatient program typically meeting a couple of times every week for a couple of hours at a time or, intensive out-patient(IOP) which consists of a highly structured group program that meets 3 to 5 days a week for a few hours at a time.

Attending outpatient treatment is different from inpatient treatment in that you are not under constant supervision, you still live at home and requires strict self discipline. For those who fear they may give in to the temptation of alcohol in the early stages of treatment, inpatient residential treatment at a Syracuse Alcohol Rehab Center and Alcohol Detoxification Facility is recommended.

Inpatient Alcohol Treatment in Syracuse

Individuals who feel their alcohol abuse has affected their lifestyle such as their family, friends, or work will benefit greatly from inpatient alcohol treatment. This form of treatment provides the recovering alcohol addict with support 24-hours a day. Additionally, removing the individual from their former surroundings helps them to adjust to living an alcohol-free lifestyle. The benefits of inpatient treatment also include the reduced likelihood of the individual using alcohol while in treatment as well as highly structured days.

Inpatient treatment can take place in a variety of locations. Many first think of hospitals or similar accommodations, however, this is not always the case. Inpatient treatment takes place in residential settings as well. In fact, the preferred treatment environment of an inpatient Alcohol Rehab Center and Alcohol Detox Center in Syracuse would be one that was is restrictive than a hospital, but has close supervision and structured days. Most of these types of SINGULER in Syracuse offer supervised detoxification that may involve medication in a hospital setting or social detoxification (i.e. no medication) in a non-hospital setting.

Syracuse Alcohol Detox

Alcohol Detox in Syracuse is where the recovery process begins. Quitting alcohol abuse can initially be very uncomfortable and withdrawal symptoms often occur. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can be life threatening in some cases so it is important to seek care in a Syracuse alcohol detox facility where medical professionals can manage and minimize the symptoms associated with drug or alcohol withdrawal under 24 hour care and supervision.

It is important to note that although alcohol detox plays a valuable role in the alcohol abuse recovery process, it is does NOT constitute a complete recovery. It is recommended that the alcohol abuser attends a Syracuse Alcohol Rehabilitation Program and Alcohol Detox Facility after the initial alcohol detox process is complete.

Short Term Alcohol Treatment in Syracuse

Short term Alcohol Programs Alcoholism Centers in Syracuse consist of inpatient treatment typically lasting 28 - 30 days or less. Short term Alcohol Rehab and Alcohol Detoxification Centers were originally designed to conform with insurance companies because many insurance carriers only cover a maximum of 28 to 30 days of substance abuse treatment. Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict with certainty that exactly "28 days" is the correct amount of time to recover from an alcohol abuse problem. In fact, in most cases this is not enough time for a successful lasting recovery.

Short term Alcohol Treatment Centers in Syracuse can be beneficial for those who have only been abusing alcohol for a short amount of time and the degree of alcohol abuse is relatively low. Short term Alcoholism Treatment and Alcohol Detox Facilities in Syracuse provide the alcohol abuser the opportunity to get away from their drinking patterns and for a short amount of time and focus on medical stabilization, abstinence, and lifestyle changes.

Long Term Alcohol Treatment in Syracuse

Long term alcohol treatment, otherwise known as long term “Residential” alcohol treatment generally lasts anywhere from 3 to 12 months in a residential, non-hospital setting. Long term Alcohol Rehabilitation and Alcohol Detox Facilities in Syracuse use the program's entire "community," including other residents, staff, and the social context, as active components of treatment. Long term Alcohol Treatment Programs in Syracuse focus on developing personal accountability and responsibility and ethical productive lives. Long term Alcohol Rehabilitation Facilities in Syracuse are highly structured with activities designed to help residents examine harmful beliefs, self-concepts, and patterns of behavior and to adopt new life skills, coping skills and constructive ways to interact with others.

These new circumstances can be confusing and difficult for the youth in Syracuse to understand and deal with. Often their ability to make correct or safe decisions is also at a stage of immaturity. Exposing the brain to alcohol during this period may interrupt key processes of brain development, possibly leading to mild cognitive impairment as well as to a further escalation of drinking leading to alcohol abuse and addiction.

Many parents in Syracuse tend to justify teen alcohol abuse as a "stage" that their teen will grow out of, but this is often not the case. Quick Drug Facts

The Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth at Georgetown University has found that: Youth exposure to alcohol advertising in magazines decreased by 31% between 2001 and 2004. In 2004, more than half of youth exposure to alcohol advertising in magazines came from 22 brands, all of which exposed youth to their advertising more effectively than adults.
Almost every culture has developed a way to make consumable alcohol from anything they have handy. We make it from grain and grapes, the Japanese from rice, and the Mongolians from fermented mare's milk.
In the United States, FAS is the third most common cause of mental retardation.
The problem with including both willful alcohol abuse and pathological alcohol dependence under the general term of "alcoholism" is that this diffuses the powerful scientific evidence that alcohol dependence is a medical issue. Medical issues require treatment. This means there must be adequate insurance to cover the newer research-based treatments for alcohol dependence. The scientific evidence that alcohol dependence is a brain issue requires more research to find exact causes and better treatments, including gene-based treatments. Thus, most research today utilizes the term alcohol dependence as synonymous with "alcoholism". Alcohol abuse is not "alcoholism."
