Maine Father intoxicated from alcohol, staggers while picking up kids from school
MAINE -- Belfast, Maine Police arrested a man on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol on Wednesday after police received a report the man was staggering from Captain Albert Stevens School with his two sons.
A Maine officer pulled over a vehicle driven by Jason Slaughter, 42, of Belfast, on Miller Street, down the street from the school, said Belfast Police Chief Jeff Trafton. Slaughter failed all the field sobriety tests and had a 0.21 percent blood alcohol level.
In Maine, a person is charged with operating under the influence for having a minimum blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent, Trafton said.
Slaughter was also charged with possession of a usable amount of marijuana and sale and use of drug paraphernalia. A marijuana pipe made from a can was found in the car, Trafton said.
Police took Slaughter to the Waldo County jail after his arrest. The 5-year-old twin boys' grandmother picked them up after their father's arrest.
Trafton said a probation officer reported Slaughter leaving the school and staggering at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
